Magic mushrooms are an example of ancient fungi that has evolved over the years. They were known for their psychedelic effects and even now the effects remain. It contains compounds called psilocybin and psilocin which causes hallucinations, the compounds are psychoactive.
The hallucinogenic effect of magic mushrooms can last up to 6 hours and comes with symptoms such as vomiting, drowsiness, nausea, visual hallucinations, spiritual awakening, change in emotions, confusion, anxiety, etc. Magic mushrooms can be consumed by drying, eating them fresh, or used to prepare tea.
Can Slow Brain Activity
Psilocybin which is the active component in magic mushrooms binds the receptors for the neurotransmitter serotonin. Studies revealed that slowing down the brain activity was by decreased activity in information transfer such as the thalamus.
There Are Different Types of Magic Mushrooms Species
There are two basic types of magic mushrooms but different species. Psychedelic fungi have two categories, each with a mix of mind-altering ingredients. It is because of this reason the mushrooms are referred to as ‘magic’. By 2005 at least 144 species of mushroom that contain psilocybin was discovered.
Mexico has 54 species and Latin America more than 50 species. North America has 22 species, Europe 16, Australia 19, and the pacific region 15. Africa has the smallest number of magic mushrooms species, which is 4. Their strength varies depending on their origin and freshness. Mexican magic mushrooms are suitable for beginners.
Magic Mushrooms Come From Way Back
Magic mushrooms were used for religious rituals thousands of years ago. They were used in Mesoamerican cultures during the Spanish conquest.
Some of the stones date more than 2000 years ago. According to the fringe theory (stone ape hypothesis), it stated that magic mushrooms sparked the brain size and culture of early humans.
Reorganizing The Brain
The component psilocybin binds to a receptor and distorts the sensory. Which triggers hallucinations and mood change. People describe it as a sense of ‘expanded consciousness’. Recent research on 15 volunteers that involved scanning of the brain, showed the activities being less organized in the brain network.
It also showed a high thinking level. FMRI scan found a dramatic change in the brain organization. It was said that psilocybin causes temporary flurry neural connections that don’t exist on normal occasions.
Changes Mood
In a study done in 2011 among participants who were given a single dose of psilocybin people became more creative, appreciated art, valued novelty, and emotions. Psychologists say the significant change was because of psilocybin effects on emotions. Participants reported a feeling of joy and found new experiences.…
